Textile tradition
Seznamte se s bohatou historií textilní výroby, která po staletí formovala celý region.
For many decades, textile production was an integral part of life in Bohemian Switzerland and the surrounding towns. Weaving, spinning, and fabric production shaped the region, its local architecture, and the lives of thousands of people. To this day, the textile tradition remains an integral part of the region’s history and identity.
Region of weavers and crafts
In many villages, weaving used to take place in almost every home. Home workshops were gradually replaced by textile workshops and later by factories, which brought economic development to the region.
At the Schindlers', he keeps on meddling
The Schindler family in Krásná Lípa carries on the long textile tradition of Bohemian Switzerland and demonstrates that craftsmanship still has a place in the region today. Hand knitting, working with high-quality yarn, and honest craftsmanship here build on the history of a region where textiles have been part of everyday life for generations. Thus, tradition is not merely commemorated in museums and historic houses, but continues to be created right here by the hands of local people.
Bohemian Switzerland and the Industrial Revolution
Thanks to the availability of water and labor, as well as its proximity to German markets, the region of Northern Bohemia became a major center of the textile industry. To this day, the landscape is dotted with historic factory buildings, chimneys, and half-timbered houses associated with artisanal production.
Half-timbered houses
The region’s characteristic half-timbered houses are among its most iconic landmarks. Their design allowed looms to be placed directly in the living quarters, and to this day they represent a unique blend of folk architecture and textile history.
A tradition that remains
Although much of the region’s textile production has disappeared, its legacy remains part of the local culture, architecture and the stories of the people who lived and worked here.
