Is it raining, snowing, freezing or even all at once? As natives of the rugged borderlands, we like to say that there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes. But sometimes it doesn’t hurt to crawl into the warmth and set the defrost program…
You’ll also be cosy and warm in places that aren’t always crowded. Here are a few.

Museum in Mikulášovice

If you face bad weather in the Šluknov foothills, you can take shelter in the Mikulášovice museum of the Mikov knifemaking tradition, which continues the tradition of knifemaking started here in 1794. In the museum you can admire 2,500 historic knives and much more, but beware, from November to April it is only open on weekdays between 9am and 4pm.

Šluknov Castle

Other places where you can hide from the bad weather and also go back in time include Šluknov Castle. The Renaissance castle can be visited with a guide who will tell you about the last owner, Erwin Leopold Nostitz-Rinecke, from the First Republic. From October to May it is open from Tuesday to Saturday. Various cultural events are also held here – check out the current programme.

Dinoherna in Wellness Hotel Lužan in Rumburk

At the weekend and on weekdays, even with small children, you can take refuge from the storm in the Wellness Hotel Lužan in Rumburk, where you can safely (without 2500 sharp objects) and entertainingly “hide” your children in the popular Dinoherna for a moderate fee, and in the meantime you can relax and properly warm up your skeleton in the famous hotel wellness.

Balahala dance hall in Rumburk

Evenings in Rumburk can be spent in the Balahala dance hall (dance and movement programmes) or in its café area with halabala chairs, where interesting lectures and discussions are held. Just take a look at the programme or just come and sit with a good coffee and check out the interesting space of the even more interesting Schrödinger Institute, which has been trying to provide meaningful entertainment for everyone in the Šluknov foothills since 2011.

Pumphut’s Mill in Krásná Lípa

In Krásná Lípa, you can work up a pleasant sweat in Pumphut’s mill, but it won’t be so much the heat from the stove, as it will be the impatient effort to outwit the mischievous elf, who in the popular indoor escape room in the cellar of house No. 480/7 in Komenský Street prevents the movement of the mill wheel and thus troubles the miller Palme and the shepherd Tomáš with his beloved Anička.

Nobilis Tilia in Vlčí Hora

A little higher up, in Vlčí Hora, you can quickly shake off the cold in the fragrant kingdom of Nobilis Tilia. You can easily spend a whole day in the local aromatherapy showroom or Herbal Tea Room. In addition to sniffing, shopping and lounging in the tea room, you can attend courses, lectures or tours organised by the Visitors’ Centre or make an appointment at the Nobilis Tilia beauty and massage salon.

Paradise Islands in Decin

In Děčín, you will get an unreal tropical warmth in the Paradise Islands Exposition, among exotic reptiles, fish in the largest marine aquarium in the Ústí nad Labem Region, insects and other interesting thermophilic fauna and flora from the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean. Moreover, there is a great news – a trial breeding of tropical butterflies has started! Visitors can see more than five species of multi-coloured butterflies from New Guinea and South America. The exhibition will offer the opportunity to walk among live exotic butterflies, observe their fascinating life cycle and admire the beautiful drawings of their wings at close range.

Castle in Decin

And if you fancy a sophisticated and stylish warm-up without any foreign animals, take a tour of Děčín Castle. The only animal you’ll see here will be a noble peacock. There are 6 of them living here and the most noble one is named Maxmilián, after the famous Thun, who played an important role in the history of the Děčín Castle. You can find current and permanent exhibitions, regular and special castle tours and other programs HERE. And if you are not interested in anything on the program, at least go to the local Greek restaurant Athina. The Mediterranean food and atmosphere will warm your heart and your stomach.

Aquapark in Decin

In rainy and creepy weather it is strongly recommended to spend the day in the Aquapark in Děčín. Toboggans, two children’s pools, two whirlpools, a swimming pool for swimmers, and for hardy swimmers, outdoor swimming with steam at the mouth, plus a wellness zone with a sauna and an outdoor terrace for relaxation… What to add? Just that you can even spend the night here – in the Aquahotel, where you’ll be lulled to sleep by the sound of splashing water and the knowledge that your morning swim is only a few steps away.

Ceramik Studio Tisá

You can warm up and at the same time create a personal and original gift with your own hands in the Ceramik Studio Tisá, an open workshop for passers-by is here every Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm. They will create a tailor-made programme for you, whether you are an individual, a couple or a group, adults or children. If you want to buy an original gift, you can get one here anytime – the shop is always open. Also check out the range of courses and workshops HERE.
