To Bohemian Switzerland for adrenaline adventure

Climb up sandstone towers, ride a mountain bike or scooter downhill, navigate the Elbe on a raft, kayak, canoe or even a paddleboard, ride a ferrata in the middle of the city, shoot a bow, sleep under the stars, plunge into the ice in the middle of forests and rocks, survive a mass start of a bike race, explore a vanished village, walk through an underground factory or discover secret caves…

All this and much more can be experienced in Bohemian Switzerland, which is exceptional not only for its dramatic nature with naturally adventurous terrain, but also for its turbulent history and its remains in the landscape.

Ideally, you should embark on your adrenaline rush with the professional support of experienced guides who will take care of your safety and ensure that you do not unknowingly destroy natural or cultural heritage, do not break laws and rules, in short, enjoy the adrenaline rush without a guilty conscience, unnecessary risks and unpleasant fines.
You will then be able to proudly and unashamedly post such experiences on the networks and share them with your family and friends :-).

So let’s go through it in a pretty systematic way, according to the direction you’re pointing.

Vertical challenges

Here in our woods, you can just duck your head and you can be almost sure that somewhere around you there will be a sandstone tower. Most of them are in the Elbe Valley, nicknamed “Labák”, in Tisá or around Ostrov. Sandstone has its own specifics. Because it is formed by erosion, it is clear that it is made of a relatively soft material, which is eroded and worn out by climbing. It is therefore necessary to treat the rocks and their surroundings as gently as possible. In the Bohemian Switzerland National Park it is also expressly forbidden to use magnesium or magnesium. Whichever way you lean in the fiery debate about the possible negative effects of magnesium on the sandstone surface, a ban is a ban and must be strictly observed, so beware.
If you are an experienced climber, it is probably not necessary to introduce Bohemian Switzerland as a climbing location for too long. For newcomers to this adrenaline sport, it is interesting to know that in Bohemian Switzerland you can get a feel for sandstone climbing with the help of professionals who will take you to the right beginner’s spots, provide the necessary equipment and guide you safely through the whole experience. Plus, you’ll learn a lot from them, so investing in their services is a good idea in terms of your own development.
Check out an adventure agency and an outdoor equipment rental company Active Point Děčínwhere they not only lend you all the equipment you need, but also advise you on selection and safety. At Active Point you can rent complete equipment for via ferrata, or you can try climbing with their certified guide, who will help beginners to master the first steps on the secured route. Děčín via ferrata Shepherd’s Wall has several route variations, offering up to 16 sections of 150-170 metres in length. During the ascent, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Elbe River, the castle of Děčín and the surrounding canyon, which make the ferrata an unforgettable experience for young and old alike. After the climb to the On Shepherd’s Hill you can “skip” to the ZOO.

The agency also offers adrenaline sports activities outdoors and indoors and always with a certified instructor Sandstone Adventures.

Other vertical challenges of Bohemian Switzerland include downhill or downhill on anything with wheels or slides (if it is cold and white joy falls, so there is something to slide on). One of the most popular local natural vertical wonders on which to practice this activity is Jedlová Hill.
You can get here by train, climb up on your own (whether on foot, skis or bicycles), have a refreshment in the restaurant, look around the region from the lookout tower and then take a run down the (officially disused) ski slope or plunge down the same way you came from the train. For even more adrenaline and comfort, it is possible to visit Adrenalin park Jedlová, ideally online first for up-to-date information on seasonal services. Not only do they rent scooters here, but they also run a rope park, a giant swing on which you can experience free fall, and a climbing wall.
You can also ride a scooter down Děčín Sněžník or from Panská skála – both provided by Active Point Děčín.

Horizontal challenges

Since we have focused on climbing and downhill above, you may be surprised to know that Bohemian Switzerland is also the place with the lowest altitude in the Czech Republic. But it is logical, because our biggest river – the Elbe – leaves the Czech territory right here, in the Elbe Valley on the border with Germany. The Elbe here is as wide as the Amazon :-), but make no mistake, it is no lazy river.
When there is enough water, the current in the Elbe is quite strong and we would definitely not recommend too much exhibitionism, consuming any intoxicating substances on its course or imagining that you will ride it from Decin to the border and back again, because you would paddle against the relentless current of the mighty river sooner :-). Active Point Děčín will offer you the service of renting a vessel (canoe, kayak, double kayak, raft, paddleboard) and at the same time they will transport you to the end of your cruise with bicycles, which will take you back to Děčín along the bike path leading handily and conveniently along the Elbe. You won’t even need navigation. And an extra tip: Active point will even transport your own bicycles to the exit of the boats.

Horizontally (but often vertically in Czechoslovak Switzerland :-) ) you can of course move around the landscape on your own. And again, you can go on your own for the adventure, or you can bring someone along who will make the trip an adventurous experience and at the same time make sure that you survive all the dangers in good health and without crossing the legal boundaries (except those with neighbouring Germany :-) ).
Popular and proven providers of guiding services in Czechoslovak Switzerland for many years include, for example, the agency Northern Hikes, which offers one-day adventure trips from Prague. They will pick you up in Prague and take you to the most beautiful places in the comfort of private vans with wifi connection and locally produced snacks.
Bohemian Adventures offers the same services or they can take you on a snowshoe trip, take you cross-country skiing or for a ride through the countryside on horseback…
All of this can be done individually, as a couple, or as a group, which brings us to an interesting field of thought about how to take all of these wonderful experiences to another level by using them to celebrate something special with your loved ones, as a bonding element for a work-weary team, or perhaps as an expression of thanks to a group of people who deserve your thanks.

We are living in a time when many of us are already realizing that the material goods that pour out of factories in exploited countries far away are a gift of the day, and that it makes much more sense to give experiences that, by supporting local providers, also become an investment in the future of us all.
