The village of Růžová is one of the most beautiful places in Bohemian Switzerland. Quite rightly, it once again won an award this year in the Vesnice roku (Village of the Year) competition of the Ústecký kraj (Ústí Region) – this time receiving the Orange Ribbon (Oranžová stuha) for exceptional cooperation between the municipality and local agricultural entities. How can you spend a day here full of experiences, beautiful nature, and a relaxed atmosphere? We asked Mrs Václava Lieblová, who owns Penzion Arosa in Růžová, lives here, and knows the village like the back of her hand.

Mrs Lieblová, what could an ideal day in Růžová look like?

I personally recommend starting early in the morning with a hike up Pastevní vrch hill, where the Růženka lookout tower stands. It is just a few minutes’ walk from the Church of St Peter and Paul (kostel sv. Petra a Pavla), and the view from the top is breathtaking – you can see Děčínský Sněžník, Pravčická brána, and the Saxon Lilienstein.

That is the morning sorted. What would you recommend as a late-morning stop?

From the lookout tower, you can continue through Kamenická Stráň all the way to Dolský mlýn. Along the way, you will come across educational boards introducing you to the history of local fortifications (the so-called řopíky light pillboxes), regional nature, and the avian inhabitants of the forests. The exact same educational trail will lead you back.

And if someone prefers to relax or go for a swim in the morning instead?

Then I would highly recommend taking the Ovocná stezka (Fruit Trail) heading towards Biotop Růžová–Nový Svět. It is a natural swimming pool offering beautiful views and local refreshment options. In summer, it is an ideal place to unwind and refresh yourself.
What about lunch in Růžová? Where can visitors go for something delicious and a bit of post-lunch peace?
We have several great spots here – Restaurace U Kostela, Hospůdku 21, or perhaps Občerstvení U Hřiště, which is an ideal choice for families with children. And I must not forget the ice cream at the stand under the lime tree; that is legendary around here! To relax and recharge your batteries, you can visit Zahrada Arosa (the Arosa Garden) near the Church of St Peter and Paul. It is a quiet, fragrant place with plenty of shade from the trees and comfortable seating.

We are well-fed and well-rested. What should we do with the rest of the afternoon?

I definitely recommend a visit to the mýdlárna Rubens soap factory. There you can see how soaps are made entirely by hand, and you can also buy some unique products to take with you. And while you are there, make sure to sit down in their Plážový bar (Beach Bar). The view of the surrounding landscape from there is fantastic, especially at sunset.

And where can one stay in Růžová if they want to remain longer?

There are plenty of options – various guesthouses (penziony) and holiday cottages (chalupy). Guests always praise the pleasant, homely environment and the welcoming attitude of the locals. Moreover, it is a perfect starting point for trips across the whole of Bohemian Switzerland as well as neighboring Saxon Switzerland. Růžová is a place best enjoyed slowly – whether with a map in hand, an ice cream cone, or your feet dipping into the natural bio-pool. I believe that anyone who comes here will instantly understand why we are so proud of our village.

Whether you head to Růžová just for a single day or spend a whole week here, much more than just beautiful nature awaits you. Thanks to the people who care for their municipality with love and pride, Růžová possesses a truly unique charm – a peaceful pace of life, a warm welcome, and an atmosphere that invites you to pause. Come and see for yourself – ideally with an open mind and a completely free day ahead of you.
