Look around! It’s from somewhere!

The end of the nineteenth century was favorable in the Šluknov region (and not only here) for associations – civil societies, we would say today – and certainly among the most popular associations were tourist ones. Cottages and cottages were built, which included bowling alleys, and, although the hilltops were not nearly as overgrown as they are today, lookout towers were also built.
They were ingenious structures that we can admire and use even today.
We will go through them all one by one. We can mention Vlčí hora, Tanečnice, but also the nearby Růženka (I especially like this one – the lookout tower, where I don’t get dizzy, has several additional positive points). We will also look across the border – here the first one to come to mind is Weifberg – but we will also look at Jitrovník, not far from Království, and check how the construction of the lookout tower, which should be opened in 2026, is progressing.
We start at Dymník Hill, which is about two kilometers from the center of Rumburk and is a popular excursion spot not only for locals.
The restaurant under the Dymník peak is popular and widely used, the football golf course has eighteen holes – well, maybe more like holes – and you have certainly seen, at least in photographs, the Stone Star of Life, a system of erected granite menhirs, which, as we will read, are an ancient spiritual symbol with a number of meanings…
I just like this building, the enlightenment has not happened yet.
As a child, I remembered that Dymník is 515 meters above sea level – this number is still sometimes found in some texts, as well as the number 516 meters above sea level, or even 517 meters.
The platform of the observation tower is 12 meters high and is reached by 83 steps, 78 of which are inside the tower.
The observation tower was opened in 1896 and was also called the August Tower (the construction was supported by the city councilor Augustin Wenschuh).
The view is worth it – watch the video – and it offers the opportunity to plan further directions of travel to all corners of the world. Each direction promises many interesting locations and the hardest thing is to choose the right route. Or in other words: every route is correct and every one that you don’t take right now is a promise of future trips. And that’s great.
