Stations of the Cross in Jiřetín pod Jedlovou

Křížová hora (562.7 m above sea level) is a prominent ridge extending from Jedlová to Jiřetín. It is here that you will find probably the most photographed Stations of the Cross in the Šluknov region. The origins of the pilgrimage site on Křížová hora are connected with legends about a miraculous cross. Prayer at the cross restored Anton Donth’s health in the mid-17th century. The first cross on Křížová hora was allegedly erected in 1699 by the Jiřetín parish priest Michael Gürtler. The development of the pilgrimage site was mainly due to parish priest Gottfried Liessner, who had eleven brick stations of the cross built here in 1759, a wooden chapel with the 12th and 13th stations, and the Rococo chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. The Stations of the Cross begin at the foot of the slope with a monumental staircase with stone columns. The original wooden chapel of St. The cross on the top of the hill was replaced by a stone structure in the 18th century. It was completed in 1796. Since the 1990s, the entire pilgrimage site, including the Stations of the Cross and the Garden of Gethsemane, has been gradually renovated.
