Kögler Nature Trail

Originally the oldest nature trail in the Czech Republic, it was opened in 1941. Mr. Rudolf Kögler, who established it with the help of the Gebirgsverein (association) for the northernmost Bohemia and the local branch of the Alpenverein, died in 1949. The trail fell into oblivion.

It was reopened in a reconstructed form in 2006, as a circular route with a starting point in Krásná Lípa on the square by the House of Bohemian Switzerland. The new route was marked out by the local Czech Tourist Club with the help of the city of Krásná Lípa and with funds from the European Union. The trail is 23 kilometers long and can also be completed in the opposite direction.

There are 39 stops on the trail with Czech-German interpretations or descriptions of the given place. The trail passes through the naturally valuable areas of the Lusatian Mountains, the Bohemian Switzerland National Park and climbs to the top of Vlčí hora to the lookout tower, from which an excellent view opens up of the Lusatian Fold, Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland, the Central Highlands, Ještěd, the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains. A printed guide with a detailed map and description of all stops has also been published, which is available at the year-round information center of the non-profit organization Czech Switzerland in the House of Bohemian Switzerland on the square in Krásná Lípa or in the e-shop.

The trail can be shortened as desired, for example in Kyjov, where a bus runs from Krásná Lípa.

On Saturdays and Sundays, you can take the tourist motor train from Krásná Lípa (and Rumburk) to Zahrady, where you can board the Kögler Trail at stop no. 35 (geological map).

The most interesting places include a sample of the Lusatian Orbit, rock formations in the Kyjov Valley, the settlement of Vlčí Hora and the lookout tower of the same name, Kögler’s geological map in Zahrady, and the folk architecture of half-timbered houses.
