A new cycle path connects Česká Kamenice and Kamenický Šenov. Eight kilometers of joy for cyclists

This autumn brings with it the opening of new cycle routes and paths. We have already written about the Mandavská cyklostezka, and on the same date a cycle path was also opened that connects Česká Kamenice with Kamenický Šenov, or rather with Prysk.

While Mandavská is technically a cycle path, in Kamenice we are talking about a thoroughbred cycle path. And when we say that its construction cost some sixty million crowns, we can only say in English: wow!

I’m not a builder, I have no idea if that’s too much or too little, but as a cyclist I can say that the four – actually eight kilometers there and back – is a joy to ride.

The Kamenická cycle path follows the route of the railway line and is a good choice. I don’t know who planned these routes at the beginning of the last century, but they almost always offer better and more inspiring views than the highways. The press release mentions that the new cycle path is suitable for cyclists, cross-country skiers and in-line skaters. I would be careful about the last item, though – there are quite long descents (or climbs) and only really experienced riders can handle this. And for skaters, there is one more minor problem: there is no parking area at either end of the path, so expect to walk a few hundred meters with skates on your shoulder to get to the track.

Cyclists, I assume, will easily incorporate those few kilometers into routes that are many times longer.

What is really nice is the chosen surface – concrete. If the tracks with this design are expanded, even amateur cycling will be a joy.
