Car-free, really? Why not? Especially at the weekend, it means real peace of mind and no worries about parking… The transport hub of Saxon Switzerland is undoubtedly the national park station in Bad Schandau, which is served all day by EC trains on the Prague–Dresden–Berlin–Hamburg route. In addition, the U28 National Park Railway (Rumburk – Bad Schandau – Děčín) runs every two hours, and the S1 S-Bahn train from Meissen arrives every half hour.

From Bad Schandau, you can continue your journey in an environmentally friendly way thanks to a dense network of bus services, trams and ferries. Every weekend and on public holidays during the summer season, some bus routes are converted into tourist and cycle routes heading to the most beautiful parts of Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland, with names that hint at their destination.

For example: the Tisá Line 217/219 or the Bielatal Line 242/245, both of which operate with a bike trailer capable of transporting up to 16 bikes to the heights of Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland. Thanks to these services, you can access the cycle routes between the Bielatal and Gottleubatal valleys, and it’s also well worth taking a trip up to Sněžník for its views. The thrilling finale to every trip is the descent to Pirna, Königstein, Bad Schandau or Děčín.

The bright yellow Kirnitzschtalbahn tram has been carrying passengers for over 120 years to the romantic Křinice Valley near Bad Schandau. With a screech, it winds its way along the hairpin bends from the spa park in Bad Schandau to the Lichtenhain Waterfall in the national park. Conductors here still sell tear-off tickets and give change from a coin tray. From the nine stops, you can set off on excursions to enjoy magnificent views, such as those from the Carolafelsen. Travelling along the Elbe is a peaceful experience.

From eight landing stages, a ferry will take you across at local transport rates: Schöna–Hřensko, Schmilka, Krippen/Postelwitz, Bad Schandau, Königstein, Wehlen, Pirna and Heidenau. The ferry in Rathen carries passengers at the local fare. The tourist boat offers a peaceful cruise along the Elbe with breathtaking views of the sandstone cliffs towering above the valley. It crosses the border up to four times a day, linking Hřensko, Schmilka, Postelwitz, Krippen and the Elbe embankment in Bad Schandau. All the landing stages where this small motorboat stops serve as starting points for various excursions into the national park.
