Spring is finally here, and with it comes the perfect time to dust off your bike and set out to discover the beauty of Bohemian Switzerland from the saddle. After the winter months, when your bike may have been sitting in a corner, it’s high time to pump up the tires, lubricate the chain, and head out to catch the first rays of sunshine. If you’re looking for inspiration for an unforgettable bike trip, we have two great tips for you—the picturesque Křinice Bike Trail and the challenge of climbing Děčínský Sněžník.

So get pedaling—spring is calling!

The Křinice Bike Trail

A bike trip along the Křinice Bike Trail begins in the heart of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park, in the town of Krásná Lípa, where you can first visit the House of Bohemian Switzerland with its beautiful exhibition on nature and the landscape and pick up all the necessary information at the visitor center.

The bike trip then follows Bike Route No. 3013 to Kyjov, from where you continue on Bike Route No. 3032. 3032. The route from Kyjov winds through the beautiful Kyjov Valley along the Křinice River. An unconventional nature trail called “Through the Křinice River Valley with All Your Senses” was recently opened here. It’s definitely worth stopping and getting off your bike.

From the Zadní Doubice–border bridge junction, the Křinice River forms the border between the Czech Republic and Saxony. The bike trail of the same name crosses the border here and continues through Hinterhermsdorf, past the Lichtenhainer Wasserfall, all the way to Bad Schandau, where it ends at the Elbe River. From Bad Schandau, continue along the Elbe Trail back to the Czech Republic to Hřensko. We recommend taking the left-bank route of the Elbe Cycle Trail. In Bad Schandau, take the ferry to Krippen, where you can enjoy a comfortable bike path and beautiful views of the rock formations along the Elbe. Later, another ferry will take you from Schöna to Hřensko.

During the tourist season, which begins this weekend on March 29, you can travel comfortably from Hřensko back to Krásná Lípa on the Ústí nad Labem Region Transport Company’s Bike Bus No. 434. 434. It runs twice a day on weekdays and four times a day on weekends and holidays. The bike bus is equipped with a trailer that can hold up to 20 bicycles, so you can enjoy your trip without worrying about the return trip.

You can round out your trip with comfortable accommodations or a delicious meal. In Krásná Lípa, the Falkenštejn Brewery awaits you—a true paradise for craft beer lovers. This brewery offers not only great beer brewed with care and love, but also delicious food that will delight even the most discerning gourmets.

If you’re looking for stylish accommodations, the modern Lípa Resort will dazzle you with its timeless architecture and comfort. On the other hand, the Apartments in the House of Bohemian Switzerland offer a very pleasant atmosphere where you’ll feel right at home.

If you’re looking for a cozy place to relax, we also recommend visiting Café Nostalgie, where you can treat yourself to a sweet treat to round off your day and even stay the night. In Hřensko, you can enjoy comfortable accommodations at Penzion pod Skalou, which is surrounded by beautiful nature and offers a peaceful atmosphere for perfect relaxation.

If you’re looking for something truly exceptional, head to Hotel Praha, which will delight you with its unique atmosphere and first-class services.

Cycling to Děčínský Sněžník

A more challenging but beautiful cycling trip around Děčínský Sněžník awaits you in Děčín. Here, join bike route No. 23, known as the Krušnohorská magistrála, and then you’ll face a roughly 12-kilometer climb during which you’ll ascend about 450 meters in elevation. For less adventurous or less fit cyclists, you can take the Ústí Region Transport bike bus No. 433, which will take you from Děčín to the village of Sněžník. From Sněžník, the final climb to the highest table mountain in the Czech Republic begins.

Along the way, you’ll pass interesting rock formations with names like the Sphinx, the Titanic, or the May Tower. At its highest point, Děčínský Sněžník reaches an elevation of 723 meters above sea level and offers beautiful views from the Drážďanská vyhlídka viewpoint and, most notably, from the stone observation tower, which stands 33 meters tall and is more than 160 years old. You’ll see the rock formations of both Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland, the Saxon table mountains, Růžový vrch, the Bohemian Central Mountains, and—on a clear day—even Ještěd.

From Sněžník, a hiking trail leads to the German town of Rosenthal and then through Bielatal to Königstein. You certainly shouldn’t miss the local fortress on the table mountain. Königstein offers plenty of historical and architectural attractions, but it’s also a perfect vantage point from which to view the Elbe River and the Elbe Trail from above. And it is precisely this trail that will lead you back to Bohemia after touring the fortress, taking you through Europe’s deepest sandstone canyon—the Elbe Canyon—all the way to Děčín.

After a challenging hike up Děčínský Sněžník, you deserve some quality rest and good food. A great choice is the Wellness Hotel Kocanda, where you can enjoy not only comfortable accommodations but also some well-deserved relaxation. If you prefer a stay in nature, the ideal option is Kemp Děčín, which offers a wide range of accommodations—from classic tents to residential tents to stylish glamping tents and bungalows.

This campground is a great place for cyclists and lovers of outdoor adventures. Another option is Hotel and Camp Formule Děčín, where you can choose from various types of accommodations—from hotel rooms to cabins and mobile homes to camping.

Whether you’re looking for a comfortable hotel or a natural retreat under the stars, you’ll find the perfect place in Děčín for a well-deserved rest after a day spent in the saddle.

Tip along the route!

In the German village of Rosenthal, you can easily veer off the route and stop at the local rock formations, where the so-called Hercules’ Pillars (Herkulessäule) are located. However, these unique and very photogenic rock formations are accessible only on foot, so you’ll need to leave your bikes locked up below the rock formations.

If these bike trips have inspired you, we have great news for you! We’re currently preparing a new cycling brochure for Bohemian Switzerland, featuring a total of 16 tips for unforgettable routes in our region. Whether you’re a recreational cyclist or an avid athlete, you’re sure to find something you’ll love!
