Weesenstein Castle

Weesenstein Castle has been towering over the Müglitz Valley for 700 years. The castle has been rebuilt many times, partly demolished and changed according to the taste of the time. You can find stylistic elements from Gothic to Classicism here. This has created an architectural curiosity among Saxon castles. The ceremonial hall is located in the attic. There is a stable on the fifth floor. The manor rooms from the 18th and 19th centuries with valuable wallpapers can be found one floor below the cellar vault. The “Monks’ Corridor” is currently haunted by the misguided ghost of one of the castle lords. Perhaps the illusionistic paintings of the facades, which are everywhere, prevent him from finding peace in all the chaos. The windows themselves are a deception, as every third one is only painted. At the foot of Weesenstein Castle lies a well-kept park and garden in the French style. These contrast with the seemingly untouched forested mountain slopes that surround Weesenstein Castle. A trip to Weesenstein can be appropriately rounded off with a visit to the Königliche Schlossküche (Royal Castle Kitchen) or a pint of good Weesenstein Castle beer.
