The most iconic building in the Šluknov region

Today I want to tell you that the most beautiful and iconic building in the Šluknovský region is the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. You can find it near Plešný hill between three villages. Mikulášovice, Brtníky and Velký Šenov.
For some reason, I have been looking for this very building for years, a building that is different from the others, but which nevertheless fits into this region completely and without reservation, and it took me all these years to realize that I drive by it almost every week, sometimes even every day.
It is true that if I were to look through all the photos of this region that I have ever taken, this chapel would probably be there most often, certainly more often than some overcooked barracks, but also natural formations that you can find in every calendar.
Zachary Hoffmann built it in 1742 and of course it was more sophisticated at that time than in the last, let’s say, half a century.
There is an engraving on which we see that its three entrances are equipped with doors, we know what the decoration was and we also know that pilgrimages were made here both from Brtníky and from Mikulášovice (for some reason, historical records do not mention Velký Šenov) and we also know that several thousand souls gathered here for church services.
Triangular chapels are not that rare, but they are nowhere so striking. It is certainly due to their size, but also to their location. This chapel of ours is an event in itself, in a meadow under several mature trees, despite, or perhaps precisely because, it has suffered considerable damage in the last fifty years. Torn doors and door frames, damaged plaster, a damaged (and fortunately!!!) roof that has been repaired several times, do not take anything away from this building’s uniqueness and beauty, which lies mainly in its simplicity and plainness. The triangular ground plan refers to the Holy Trinity (and the question arises as to why this straight line to which it is inadvertently and immediately offered) is actually used so little in this context. Trinity is simply three walls, right?)
If I write at the beginning of this text that this particular chapel is the most iconic building far and wide and I don’t understand why it isn’t written about more often, on the other hand I like the fact that when I stop here, I don’t have to worry about not finding peace here.
So stop by sometime, but don’t tell anyone too much about this place.
