4+4 Tips for Where to Photograph Sunrise and Sunset
Sunrises and sunsets are among the most beautiful natural phenomena. Imagine your favorite spot somewhere high up on a hill, on a rock, or in a meadow, bathed in the soft light of the sun’s rays, as you simply sit and watch the landscape transform. If you’re an early bird and a lover of sunrises, with a little luck, your reward for getting up early will be ground fog, which adds a unique atmosphere to the entire scene.
It’s no wonder that the golden hour draws so many photographers out into nature. And which places are definitely worth visiting with your camera in hand?
1. Vilemína’s Wall in Jetřichovice is an absolute classic. You can’t go wrong with this spot, no matter what time of year it is.
How to get there: From the parking lot in Jetřichovice, follow the red trail all the way to the very top. You’ll face a 1.5-kilometer challenging climb, but it’s definitely worth it.
2. Křížový vrch in Rynartice is a real favorite. The panoramic view from its treeless summit offers ideal conditions for photographing both sunrises and sunsets. What’s more, it’s a place of divine tranquility with endless views in every direction.
How to get there: From the Rynartice bus stop, follow the blue trail past the Zámeček Restaurant. It’s a 5-minute easy climb.
3. Until recently, Malý Stožec, located near Chřibská, was one of the more overlooked peaks. However, anyone who has ever discovered this place has immediately fallen under its spell. It’s no wonder that it’s attracting more and more visitors. The sunsets here are truly unique.
How to get there: From the train station in Chřibská, follow the yellow trail toward the Jedlová train station. After less than 3 km, you’ll come to an inconspicuous turnoff, from which a steep 600-meter climb to the summit awaits you. If you climb quietly, you might be lucky enough to spot a pair of chamois that inhabit the local rocky outcrops.
4. The Dresden Lookout (Drážďanská vyhlídka) is located in the beautiful Elbe Sandstone Mountains region on Děčínský Sněžník. It offers sweeping views all the way to the Saxon Table Mountains, which look even more beautiful in the setting sun.
How to get there: The ideal starting point is the trail junction near Hřebenová bouda in the village of Sněžník. From there, follow the red trail for about 1 km, where you’ll find a turnoff leading to the lookout point itself.
And if that wasn’t enough, here are a few more hidden gems: Karlova výšina near Krásná Lípa, Větrný vrch near Česká Kamenice, Střední vrch in Dolní Prysk, or Stříbrný vrch above Líska.
