Jiřetín pod Jedlovou
It is located in the northernmost part of the Czech Republic, in the Šluknov promontory in the Lusatian Mountains Protected Landscape Area. The municipality includes the settlements of Lesné, Rozhled and Jedlová.
The first written mention dates back to 1548, when the owner of the Tolštejn estate, George of Šlejnice (Saxony), began building the town of Sankt Georgenthal based on the discovery of a silver ore deposit in the vicinity of the Tolštejn castle. However, mining in this area was never profitable. For many years, the main source of livelihood for the local population was linen weaving and textile production. There were three factories for printing and producing cotton fabrics, a factory for cutting and polishing gemstones, and there was also a brewery.
The period of romanticism in the 19th century and the location of the village in the beautiful landscape of the Lusatian Mountains predetermined Jiřetín pod Jedlovou for the development of tourism, recreation and sports.
The village is declared a Municipal Monument Zone, the center of which is the recently reconstructed square. In the very center of the zone are the historical buildings of the church and the rectory with an ornamental pond, fountain and colorful fish. There is also an information center with public restrooms. Next to the information center there is also a parking lot for dozens of motor vehicles, which is often completely full on weekends. From the square, and not only from it, you can enter the beautiful landscape of the Lusatian Mountains after 300 m, interwoven with a number of cultural monuments.
In 1998, the village won the title of Village of the Year in the national competition of the Rural Renewal Program.
