Behind the Saxon Table Mountains

A more challenging but beautiful bike trip starts in Děčín.

Here you will join the cycle route No. 23 called the Krušnohorská magistrála and then you will have a 5 km long hike to Maxičky.

Děčín – Maxičky – Großer Zschirnstein – Schona – Děčín

On this section you will climb about 340 vertical metres.

From Maxice you will take a nice forest path to the Owl Gate. Here you cross the border and continue to Großer Zschirnstein, which you can also climb on foot.

In good weather, the summit of the highest table mountain in Saxon Switzerland offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area.

Another table mountain that can be visited without a bike is Kleiner Zschirnstein. This table mountain also offers beautiful views and unique rock formations.

From Kleiner Zschirnstein, the route leads to the German town of Schöna.

Here you will join the Elberadweg, the German part of the Elbe Trail.

Head back to Bohemia against the Elbe’s current. On the opposite bank you will see Hřensko, which is connected to Schöna by a ferry. But continue your trip further to Dolní Žleb.

Here you can stop and refresh yourself. After a break, continue along the Elbe Trail and through the deepest sandstone canyon in Europe – the Elbe Canyon, you will reach Děčín.
