Wood-fired ceramics
Ceramics TERRAPAKA – Pavla Kašáková
Pavla Kašáková creates in her studio TERRAPAKA directly in the village of Tisá, surrounded by the impressive nature of sandstone rocks in the left bank of the Czechoslovakian Switzerland. Her work is based not only on original traditional and time-tested patterns and decors, but also on local legends, the memory of the landscape and specific places.
The authenticity of ceramic products is underlined by:
- traditional production on the potter’s wheel
- firing ceramics in a wood-fired kiln, where they are heated with waste but specially selected local wood – pitch pine and larch, which have a long, fast flame when burning
- original decoration method– ash glaze and multicoloured engobe (clay).
Another area of their work is the effort to preserve the memory of the landscape. Pavla Kašáková walks through the landscape, searching for local stories and legends, which she then transforms into ceramic reliefs (plates in both Czech and German). She then fixes them at specific places in the landscape to serve as a source of information for everyone else.
