Jetřichovice
Jetřichovice is a tourist center of Bohemian Switzerland. The village was founded at the end of the 14th century in connection with the Falkenštejn Castle, built to protect the widely used trade route of the Czech Road, which connected Bohemia with Saxony and Lusatia. In the past, climatic and mineral spas were in operation here. In the valley of the Křinice River near the Czech Road, there was the now extinct settlement of Zadní Jetřichovice.
Jetřichovice, Rynartice, Všemily and Vysoká Lípa are spread out in the most beautiful part of Bohemian Switzerland. You will find old cottages here nestled under sandstone rocks or, conversely, on sunny slopes with surprising views of the picturesque landscape of ravines, rocks and wooded basalt hills, dominated by the breathtaking cone of Růžovský vrch, the symbolic mountain of northern Bohemia. Old church paths here fall into dark sandstone ravines, only to ascend from them again up worn carved steps to long-forgotten homesteads and village churches.
Jetřichovice itself is surrounded by the scenery of the Jetřichovice Rocks, which abound in many diverse viewpoint rock formations with their own secret stories that are worth discovering.
What you should see
Baroque Church of St. John of Nepomuk – it was recently renovated, also thanks to contributions from the original inhabitants. It boasts a bell from 1506 and a new bell dedicated to St. Anne. The church is adjacent to the repaired original cemetery. From the meadow above the church, a panorama of the Jetřichovické rocks opens up.
Cottages with a shed – can be found in all parts of the village, the cottages in Vysoká Lípa – a village monument zone (one of 4 in the former Děčín district) are exceptionally impressive.
The former Griesl Mill – on the green-marked road to Česká Kamenice – a romantic still life with a pond between the rocks – once a picnic spot with a boat rental.
The building of the former sanatorium from the year 1927 – a magnificent building with a garden, in a nice setting before the entrance to the Jetřichovické Rocks.
Rock Chapel of St. Ignatius in Všemily – a remarkable space carved into a rock block at the beginning of the 19th century, impressively located near old cottages.
Dwarf Rock – a rock massif by the road from Rynartice to Jetřichovice, into which sculptor Ernest Vater carved reliefs and statuettes of playful dwarfs and Snow White in 1833.
Křížový vrch near Rynartice – the circular view from the grassy peak will surprise you with the detail of the Jetřichovické rocks from the unknown eastern side and the exceptionally elegant shape of Růžovský vrch
Mary’s Rock (428 m) – originally a fire observation tower, Ferdinand Kinský opened it to tourists in 1918. 1856. The view high on the rocks from a wooden gazebo was reopened to visitors in 2007 after the original gazebo was destroyed by a fire started by careless tourists in September 2005.
Rudolf’s Stone (484 m) – from the summit rock offers a unique circular view of the rocky landscape of the back Bohemian Switzerland. A path leads to the summit, ending with a strenuous climb over stone steps.
Excursion site “Na Tokáni” – former hunting cabins of the Kinsky princes built in the Swiss Alpine style. Today several restaurants and accommodation options. Crossroads of tourist routes in the back of Bohemian Switzerland.
Šaunštejn Rock Castle – since the 15th century, the ruins of what was originally a guard castle, which served to guard the trade route, have been deserted. You can still find traces of the carved foundations of the buildings here. Because its owners, the Berks of Dubá, also made a living by robbery, it is called the Robber’s Castle. Romantic approach, beautiful view and red trail from Jetřichovice to Mezní Louka.
Zadní Jetřichovice – At the end of the 19th century, the village of Zadní Jetřichovice was a popular excursion destination in Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland. The village was located directly on the border between Saxony and Bohemia above the Křinicí river. Here the paths from Mezní Louka, Kyjovské údolí, Jetřichovice and from Upper and Lower Clauses (Obere und Untere Schleuse) met. The restaurant “Kirnitzsch-Schänke” (Křinická hospoda) was famous far and wide. Also popular were the “Gasthof Hirsch” (The Deer Inn), the “Hegerhaus” (The Game House) and the “Waldfrieden” (Forest Peace) inn. After the end of the Second World War, the original inhabitants were displaced and the buildings were destroyed. Since the mid-1950s, the settlement no longer exists. The foundations of buildings and hotels are still visible today, which several volunteers are trying to uncover and preserve in the future in cooperation with the České Švýcarsko National Park Administration. There is a border bridge over the river, a seating area and a signpost.
You know that….
…. The film fairy tale The Proud Princess (1952) was prepared in the area of the former Dolský mill from 1515 in the Kamenice gorge. A number of scenes were filmed in the rocky gorges around Jetřichovice and on Panská skála near Kamenický Šenov. In 2008, the ruins of the mill hosted the creators of the films The Lost Prince and Hell with the Princess. In the beautiful setting of the Kamenice valley, not far upstream from the Dolský mill, you will find the oldest reinforced concrete bridge in the former Austria-Hungary.
