Tisá – a little aside, but definitely not secluded

The village of Tisá may be located a little away from the center of Bohemian Switzerland, but its fame is comparable. This is evidenced not only by the interest of tourists, but also by filmmakers who often and gladly look for exteriors here for their projects – for example, for The Chronicles of Narnia, of course.

Anyone who follows the news knows that a similarly impressive landscape can be found in Eastern Bohemia – in Adršpach. It is there that tourist interest has become almost unsustainable. And since they have a fish market in the Tisza, they decided that they wanted to prevent a similar scenario. They therefore established the position of a tourism coordinator who is in charge of this area.

I went to Tisá at the end of the summer and together with Kateřina Granátová we climbed to the edge of the Tisá Rocks. Kateřina explained to me clearly what the municipality’s strategy is and how it tries to communicate with tourists and visitors.

Data, foresight and diversity

In Tisá, they decided to take a systematic approach and first collect relevant data on attendance. As in Adršpach, they offer the option of online registration and advance ticket booking to avoid situations where it is simply “full”.

At the same time, they are preparing a wider range of destinations for those who don’t just want to take a photo among the rocks and leave. They want visitors to stay longer in Tisza and discover other places worth visiting.

St. Anne’s Church is becoming one of the new centers of activity – not only thanks to the new bells, but also thanks to the sensitive lighting, which gives it a new charm.

And even though the main season is over, the nearby Sněžník is worth a visit. In addition to the breathtaking view towards Saxony, it is also a mushroom picker’s paradise.

A place with a soul

Tisá has an extraordinary location and a strong genius loci (I know, that’s said about a lot of places, but it really applies here). Visiting Tisá means preparing for a series of exceptional experiences – and perhaps even a slightly different perspective on what sensible tourism can look like.
