Krásná Lípa – a town made for relaxation

This town, which has literally blossomed over the last fifteen years, now truly lives up to its name. What’s more, it’s a wonderfully strategic location – from here, you can easily reach everything of interest in the Děčín and Šluknov regions. Simply the ideal base for a holiday.

Krásná Lípa, however, isn’t just a great starting point for exploring the countryside; it’s also a place where you can enjoy a wealth of pleasures – whether you want to laze about or be incredibly active. As well as pleasant architectural walks around the town to see unique villas (such as the largest Functionalist villa in the Czech Republic, named after the industrialist Palme, or Hielle’s Neo-Renaissance villa), you can wander through the extensive municipal forest park, admire gems of folk architecture – the half-timbered houses on Kamenná Horka above the town, and set off through the town’s streets in the footsteps of the local-born painter August Frind (a free guide is available from the Information Centre)…

For those who prefer more structured exercise, the well-equipped Bohemian Switzerland Sports Centre is open all year round, offering an indoor multi-purpose hall, a gym, outdoor courts, a table tennis room, a climbing wall, a beach volleyball court, mini-golf, and a children’s adventure area with a cable car and a trampoline…

You can then relax in the wellness centre. The area around Krásná Lípa is also beautiful. And it really doesn’t matter which direction you head in. Take the Kögler Nature Trail, for example – a 23-kilometre circular route with over forty information points that takes you to the summit of Vlčí hora and even higher, up to the glass-fronted viewing platform of the local observation tower, offering a truly extraordinary panoramic view… You’ll simply walk through the whole of the northern Krásná Lípa region and come to understand the soul of the landscape.

The Kyjov Valley. An idyllic canyon formed by the River Křinice, along which you can walk as far as the Tourist Bridge or even further, perhaps all the way to Saxony. A short distance north of Krásná Lípa, right next to Sněžná, you’ll be amazed by a truly photogenic spot – the Baroque Chapel of the Holy Trinity beneath a mighty lime tree, with the silhouette of Vlčí hora on the horizon. From the chapel, you’ll walk down an idyllic path to a remarkable place of pilgrimage, the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, and if you carry on along the red trail towards Krásný Buk, signposts from Grohmann’s Cross will guide you to the arboretum in Mr Fritsche’s garden, which is open to the public all year round.

In spring, the rhododendron blossoms will take your breath away; in summer, a profusion of lilies and ponds with water lilies; and in autumn, an incredible palette of colours. If you follow the Kögler Trail for a short while and turn onto the yellow trail at the Nad Vápenkou crossroads, a short climb up Široký vrch awaits you, taking you past Kočičí and Dračí skály up to Karlova výšina with the Karlova vyhlídka viewpoint. You really must treat yourself to this – the view from here of the forests of Bohemian Switzerland is truly unique. The yellow trail forms a loop here, so you’ll make your way back comfortably to the town, which you simply cannot help but grow fond of.
