Belvedere

The Belvedere viewpoint is a landscaped rock terrace with the most beautiful views of the Elbe Canyon. The viewpoint terrace with a salla terena (in the form of an artificial cave) with a high arcade and the Clary-Aldringen coat of arms is located about 130 m above the Elbe River near the village of Labská Stráň. The viewpoint was built in the early romantic period of tourism at the beginning of the 18th century.

The Belvedere viewpoint was built by František Karel Clary-Aldringen. It first served as a place for concerts, where the nobility and their guests, who came here by carriage along the alley from Bynovec, where the estate and castle of the Clary-Aldringen family were, had fun. In 1791, the castle in Bynovec burned down and the nobility lost interest in the viewpoint. However, interest in the viewpoint from tourists grew. In 1841, a modest wooden pub was built, which was replaced in 1888-1889 by a stone building, today the Hotel Belvedere, which serves tourists to this day.
