Where glass comes to life – Ajeto Lindava

Watch glassmakers at work, enjoy fine Czech cuisine, wash it down with a good local beer, and take home a piece of glass that you’ll be truly proud of.

Ajeto in Lindava offers this unique combination. This large glassworks is owned by Lasvit, which produces its most important pieces here. Ajeto consists of two parts. The first is the glassworks itself, where artists from all over the world gather to bring their ideas to life. Under the glassmakers’ skilled hands, luxurious and exclusive glass is created here, which you can see in art galleries all over the world.

Did you know that the trophy for the Tour de France is made at Ajeto, and that the Thalia Theatre Awards also come to life here?

The second part of the business, the glassmakers’ pub, is situated just below the glassworks. It is a period brick barn housing a restaurant, naturally decorated with Lasvit light fittings. A small glass furnace also burns here, where a glassblower blows glass right before visitors’ eyes. As mentioned, you can enjoy Czech cuisine here, and Nový Bor’s Born beer is on tap. They’ve specially brewed an 8° beer for the local workshop, which is served as ‘Ajeto 8°’. Why that number? ‘This beer serves as the traditional protective drink for glassmakers. The men work in an environment where temperatures reach 40–50 degrees Celsius, and this low-alcohol beer helps them replenish their mineral levels.

But it wasn’t our idea; it’s the result of long-term research, and it’s been drunk in glassworks since time immemorial,” explains Ajeto’s director, David Ševčík. If you find yourself feeling a bit too passive during lunch or dinner, then the following concept is designed just for you. “We have several types of products ready in the glass-blowing workshop at the pub – ranging from half-litre glasses to small vases.

Anyone brave enough can try making them themselves with the help of our glassblower,” encourages David Ševčík, inviting visitors to try their hand at this craft. For those who find even this insufficient and would like to delve even deeper into the craft of glassmaking, individual tours are available. If you’re interested in a guided tour, larger groups need to book in advance.
