A Brewery as a Year-Round Companion | Falkenštejn
There are plenty of craft breweries. More and more of them. Some simply brew beer, others also run a pub, whilst others still have the ambition to become a good companion all year round and look after their guests in every way. There aren’t many of the latter. One of the most successful and sought-after is undoubtedly the Falkenštejn Brewery on Křinické náměstí in Krásná Lípa.
The name of the square is mentioned deliberately, as it is precisely the Křinice – a small river flowing almost directly beneath the brewery itself – that forms a magnificent link between Krásná Lípa and the national parks of Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland. And for years, Falkenštejn has been one of the leading representatives of this beautiful corner of our planet.
You certainly won’t miss the Falkenštejn Brewery. It’s a complex of two buildings, architecturally interesting, blending tradition with modernity. Through the glass wall, you can watch the brewers at work whenever you like; in the adjoining restaurant, you can enjoy all the foamy classics and specialities, as well as excellent cuisine; what’s more, just a few metres further up, you can stay in one of the cosy rooms at the brewery guesthouse… and that’s by no means all.
The brewery’s philosophy is not only appealing but also responsible – Falkenštejn sees itself as part of the public life of the town and the region, and as such strives to initiate or at least support numerous events; it certainly isn’t indifferent to what’s happening around it.

But let’s take it one step at a time – the most important thing is, of course, the beer. Its quality and flavour are the foundation of everything for the brewers. If this weren’t up to scratch, the rest wouldn’t matter. But it is up to scratch. Falkenštejn has long been one of the most acclaimed and sought-after craft breweries, and their beer is simply superb. Here, for instance, speciality beers aren’t merely a seasonal phenomenon; they’re part of the strategy. Whether bottom- or top-fermented, you can always count on their flavour and their meaningful connection to other events.

So, we’ve got good beer as a foundation. Furthermore, the brewery has decided to be a place where customers are looked after from A to Z, quite literally. It starts with a pint of beer, continues with a varied restaurant menu and simple yet comfortable accommodation, and concludes with a range of services for both individuals and businesses. If, for example, a company decides to take advantage of this offer, they can put together a packed, tailor-made programme – from a brewery tour with a tasting, through a talk on beer with a quiz, to a popular pub quiz and recommendations for trips and events in the region.
Another key aspect of the brewery’s philosophy is its involvement in the social life of the town and the wider region. Falkenštejn organises or at least supports numerous events – for example, the popular Parkmarathon, the Wolfking cycling challenge, its own summer music festival ‘Krásnolipská nádhera’, talks and lectures, as well as the ever-more-popular pub quizzes – and that is just a fraction of the brewery’s activities aimed at the public.

The main ambition of the Falkenštejn Brewery is to become an attractive tourist destination and to be seen as the ideal base and starting point for actively exploring the breathtaking natural beauty of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park and the Lužické Mountains Protected Landscape Area – whilst remaining a firm and active part of the local community. Geographically, this makes perfect sense, as Krásná Lípa lies exactly on the border between these two picturesque and, in many ways, unique regions.
Trips to the Kyjov Valley of the River Křinice, which can naturally continue all the way to the Saxon side, the Krásná Lípa region – still not fully explored and full of hidden beauty – Jedlová, Tolštejn, Malý Stožec, as well as Klíč and Pěnkavčí vrch – the first proper hills of the Lužické Mountains – are all destinations easily reached by bike or on foot. The whole of Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland, as well as the undiscovered Czech Lowlands and Upper Lusatia, are within easy reach by local transport or car.
We started with beer, so it’s only right to end with it too. The Falkenštejn Brewery is a sought-after partner and supplier of beer to high-quality, socially responsible businesses throughout the region. Some restaurants have their own brand of beer brewed at Falkenštejn – such as the Ostrov Hotel or Usedlost Na stodolci – but you’ll also find Falkenštejn beer at Kemp Děčín or in the unique Luční Bar on Kamenná horka. The Falkenštejn Brewery simply isn’t subject to seasonal fluctuations.
You’ll never get bored here – not even in the depths of winter, nor on ordinary spring or autumn days. After all, true beer connoisseurs will enjoy Falkenštejn most of all precisely when Krásná Lípa isn’t teeming with tourists.
