In the Footsteps of the Silver Screen – A Gateway to Fairy Tales
You know how it is: you arrive somewhere and experience a sense of déjà vu – as if you’ve been there before – and after a moment’s thought, it clicks – a film or a fairy tale! This article is aimed primarily at film fans, as it focuses on locations in Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland that have been used by filmmakers.
The Pravčická Gate featured in the film adaptation of *The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe*. Another very popular location, frequently used by filmmakers, is Dolský Mill. It has appeared in many Czech fairy tales, such as *Hell with the Princess* and *The Madly Sad Princess*. However, *The Proud Princess* features several more locations from Bohemian Switzerland: the meadow in Huntířov, Pánská skála, Česká silnice and Křížový vrch in Rynartice.
Just across the border, specifically in Dresden, the Bastei rock bridge and Königstein served as filming locations for the now cult German TV series *Cobra 11*.
One of the most recent fairy tales to use the scenery of Bohemian Switzerland as a backdrop is *The Clockmaker’s Apprentice*, a 2019 fairy tale. Bohemian Switzerland was represented here by Zlatý vrch, which became the home of Morana and Živa in the fairy tale. Zlaťák is a mountain on which the sun never sets.
However, these are just a few examples. More detailed information about film locations in Bohemian Switzerland can be found at: https://www.filmovamista.cz/
