The best sport is coffee and cake
The aim of a day out doesn’t have to be just a hilltop viewing tower, diverse natural scenery or an all-day hike; an excellent cup of coffee in a beautiful spot, accompanied by a delicious slice of cake, can be just as wonderful a destination. In this article, you’ll find a few tips for day trips where the main attraction might just be a coffee in one of the cafés in the heart of Bohemian Switzerland.
The town of Rumburk is a place with a long history; a specific spot for your day out could be the Loreto Chapel of the Virgin Mary. It is a Baroque building dating from the early 18th century, modelled on its older counterpart in Italy. It is a magnificent building that harbours a wealth of historical and artistic treasures. You can round off your day out at the Bohemian Coffee House in Rumburk, where you can enjoy delicious homemade cakes and fine coffee.
Another café destination on your trip could be the Nobilis Tilia tea room on Vlčí hora. Coffee lovers needn’t despair – they’ll make you a good cup of coffee here too, even though it’s called a tea room. The tea room is part of the Nobilis Tilia complex, which produces natural cosmetics and herbal teas. Before settling down in the cosy tea room, you might want to visit their herb garden, for example. You can also combine a visit to this tea room with, for example, a trip to the Vlčí hora observation tower, from the top of which you’ll be treated to a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside.
If you’re heading somewhere near Děčín, you shouldn’t miss a visit to the Coffee & Books café. The café will delight you not only with good coffee but also with a variety of delicacies. There’s something for everyone here, whether you have a sweet tooth or prefer savoury treats. You can enjoy a coffee here as a reward after tackling the Děčín via ferrata, or you can visit the local castle, which is sure to delight history enthusiasts. However, if history isn’t quite your thing, you can take a stroll through the Rose Garden, which forms part of the castle complex.

Our final tip for café-goers is the Na Stodolci restaurant in Chřibská. It isn’t strictly speaking a café, but the local Stodolce pancakes and delicious coffee are sure to satisfy your taste buds. You can combine this gourmet experience with a visit to the Tadeáš Haenke Museum, dedicated to the traveller and botanist whose life is inextricably linked to this region. If the museum doesn’t appeal to you, the restaurant also has a riding school where you can book a horse ride.
