Hiek’s Cross – Dlouhý Důl

Metal cross with a stone base. The square base, standing on two stone steps, is divided into a base, a stem and a capital. The wider base, with a wavy profile, turns into a simple prismatic stem, culminating in a cornice capital divided by an arch and concessions.

The front side of the heel is lined with a braid motif, in the middle is an inscription field with the engraved inscription “O Mensch betrachte das Leiden und die schmerzliche Kreuzigung Jesu Christi. Im Schweigen wie im Dulden gros. Zeilst, Heiliger! Du das Meisters Loos. Hilf uns schweigen, dulden ringen, Muthvoll uns zum Himmel schwingen.”

The inscription fields bordered by engraving are also on the side surfaces of the foot and stem. On the front side of the stem there is a rectangular recessed field lined with mother-of-pearl, in which there is a plastic relief of St. John of Nepomuk. The head is decorated with a dentil. On the front side of the head there is a segmental plate with a relief of a lamb in the sun’s rays. A metal lamp holder is mounted on the upper surface of the head. A metal cross with a back support and the body of Christ and a plate with the inscription INRI is mounted in a profiled extension connecting to the head of the base.

There are four fence posts around the monument. All the stone parts are made of sandstone.

Historical information: The monument was built in 1832 by Laurenz Görner, a housekeeper from Dlouhý Důl, No. 27, on the site where a wooden cross used to stand.
