Forest Craft Days

Since 2012, the meadow near Dolský Mill has been alive with the movement of modern coal miners, pitchers and tar makers. The administration of the National Park Bohemian Switzerland (in cooperation with the Institute of Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic) began to organize the so-called “Days of forest crafts”, which are very popular among visitors. The tenth anniversary edition took place in August 2023.

In addition to charcoal production, visitors can learn about experimental tar production in a tar kiln, baking in a bread kiln, iron ore smelting, glassmaking demonstrations and many other craft activities.

The event is attended by several hundred people every year. The event is a multi-day event. It is organized in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, which guarantees its professional credit. The public is shown the traditional procedures of various traditional crafts. A brochure describing the various crafts has been published and an exhibition on the same subject is also available.

In 2025, the Craft Days will take place on 21. – 23.8.
