From the Tisza Walls to Děčínský Sněžník

Looking for a route that offers adventure among the rocks, spectacular views and quiet forest corners? Take a hike through a landscape full of rocky outlooks, forest trails and distant views. The route will take you through the Tisza Walls, over the Ostrovské Skály to the majestic lookout tower on Děčínský Sněžník and end in Jílové with the possibility of visiting the local chateau.

Where to go?

From Tisá, follow the green trail towards Tisza Walls. The trail will lead you over the peaks of the rocks with magnificent views to the Tourist Cottage and then through the forest valley surrounded by rocks around the Volské stones to Ostrov. The trail then climbs along the edge of the Ostrov rocks to a plateau from where further views of the sandstone landscape open up. In winter, marked cross-country skiing trails lead through here. Continue through the forest and across the meadow to the settlement of Sněžník (Hraniční bouda). From here, an asphalt road leads up to the lookout tower on Děčínský Sněžník. The red sign turns right at the halfway point, but we recommend continuing along the road – this will take you to the Dresden lookout, which offers a breathtaking view of the table mountains in Germany. At the same time, this is the best place for a picnic – there’s even a real table with benches.

You can run the picnic by climbing the nearby lookout tower Děčínský Sněžník, from where you can enjoy an amazing circular view of the Elbe Sandstone, Saxon and Lusatian Mountains. It was built here in 1864 from the so-called Cyclops masonry by the local tourist patron, Count František Antonín Thun. From the lookout tower, follow the red and green trail along the edge of the rocks to the turn-off where the green trail descends steeply through the southern part of the village of Sněžník to the road leading to Jílové. If you are interested in history, don’t forget to stop in Jílové for a tour of the local chateau. From there it is only a short walk to the Jílové-square bus stop.
