From Tisá Walls to Děčínský Sněžník

Looking for a route that offers adventure in the rocks, spectacular views, and quiet forest spots? Take a hike through a landscape full of rocky viewpoints, forest trails, and distant views. The route will take you through the Tisá Walls, over the Ostrovské Rocks to the majestic lookout tower on top of Děčínský Sněžník (Snowy Peak) and end in Jílové where you can visit a chateau.

How to get there?

From Tisá, follow the green trail towards Tisá Walls. The trail will lead you over the peaks of the rocks with magnificent views to Turistická Chata and then through the forest valley surrounded by rocks around Volské kameny to Ostrov. The trail then climbs along the edge of the Ostrov Rocks to a plateau from where further views of the sandstone landscape open up. In winter, cross-country skiing trails are marked there. Continue through the forest and across the meadow to the settlement of Sněžník (Hraniční bouda). From here, an asphalt road leads up to the lookout tower on Děčínský Sněžník. The red sign turns right at the halfway point, but we recommend continuing along the road – this will take you to the Dresden Lookout, which offers a breathtaking view of the table mountains in Germany. At the same time, this is the best place for a picnic – there’s even a table with benches.

After the picnic, you can climb up the nearby lookout tower Děčínský Sněžník, from where you can enjoy an amazing circular view of the Elbe Sandstones, Saxon and Lusatian Mountains. It was built here in 1864 from the so-called cyclop’s masonry by the local tourism patron, Count František Antonín Thun. From the lookout tower, follow the red and green trail along the edge of the rocks to the turn where the green trail quickly descends through the southern part of the village of Sněžník to the road leading to Jílové. If you are interested in history, don’t forget to stop in Jílové for a tour of the local chateau. From there it is only a short walk to the bus stop Jílové-náměstí.
