The castle complex in Bene\u0161ov nad Plou\u010dnic\u00ed is a unique example of architecture from the period of the transformation of Vladislav Gothic and Renaissance. It is among the most important preserved monuments of the Czech Republic. Inside the three accessible castles there is a richly equipped period exhibition mapping the life of the nobility. The entire castle area, which offers a total of seven castle buildings, is rightly called the “pearl of the Saxon Renaissance”. <\/p>\n
The history of all the castle buildings (except one from the 19th century) is connected with the Meissen noble family of Salhausen, who came to Bohemia at the beginning of the 16th century and, in less than a century, transformed Bene\u0161ov nad Plou\u010dnic\u00ed into a center of construction and cultural development. <\/p>\n
However, at the beginning of the 17th century, Bene\u0161ov changed its owners and the administration of the estate was divided between two noble families, who administered their halves of the estate, belonging to the Upper and Lower Castles respectively. All the castle buildings avoided significant reconstructions over the centuries and have thus preserved their unique Renaissance appearance to this day. <\/p>\n
The exhibition of the accessible objects provides us with a glimpse of the life of the nobility: In the Lower Castle you can see an exhibition focusing on the period of the 16th-17th centuries, while in the Upper Castle you can see private aristocratic rooms from the period of the 18th-20th centuries. The castle grounds also include a freely accessible castle garden, and in the premises of the ticket office in the Upper Castle there is a tourist information center full of promotional materials and souvenirs. <\/p>\n
