It lies on the west bank of the Elbe near the Königstein fortress, about 10 kilometers west of Hřensko. There are a number of caves here, and the local settlement dates back to the Stone Age. However, due to the unclear and impassable terrain, people also sought shelter here in later times (for example, during the Napoleonic Wars). The modern era of tourism here began in the 19th century. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the location has also been a destination for mountaineers.

Barbarine

is the most famous free-standing rock tower (sometimes also referred to as a rock needle) in the German part of the Elbe Sandstones. The 42.7 m high rock tower is located on the southern edge of the Pfaffenstein table mountain about 2 km southeast of the Königstein fortress and is one of the most famous symbols of the Elbe Sandstones. The first ascent was made on September 19, 1905. Over time, the head of the rock tower began to erode, and therefore it was renovated with concrete in 1946. The erosion continued, and therefore climbing activities on the tower were prohibited from 1975, and in 1979-1980 the head of the rock tower was impregnated and the head was renovated with artificial stone.

[381,379,380,382
361,362,364
329,333
429
post-91537","zazitky","type-zazitky","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","kdy_navstivit-autumn","kdy_navstivit-spring","kdy_navstivit-summer","kdy_navstivit-winter","pro_koho-couples","pro_koho-families","pro_koho-groups","zazitek-stitek-nature","zazitek-stitek-saxon-switzerland","zeme-germany
["GET
