On his feast day (June 24), parishioners would go in procession to the church in Arnoltice. The exact date of construction and the author of the building plans are unknown; the chapel is not even listed in the lists of minor monuments from the early 19th century. However, according to the memorial book of the parish in Arnoltice, the building was already standing at the end of the 18th century.      <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"570\" data-end=\"959\">The chapel has a rectangular floor plan, a small bell tower, a triangular gable and a popular Baroque statue of St. John the Baptist in a niche. Inside there is a wooden Baroque statue of the same saint. Before World War II, a statue of St. John of Nepomuk was installed in the niche, which after 1945 led to the mistaken belief that the chapel was dedicated to him. The municipality repaired the chapel in 2012 with the support of the Ministry of Culture.     <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"966\" data-end=\"987\"><strong data-start=\"966\" data-end=\"987\">Saint John the Baptist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"989\" data-end=\"1207\">John the Baptist, called the Forerunner in Orthodoxy, is a biblical prophet from the 1st century. He was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth, his birth foretold by the archangel Gabriel. Due to doubts about the annunciation, Zechariah remained mute until John&#8217;s circumcision.   <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1209\" data-end=\"1498\">John lived an ascetic life in the desert, where he prepared for his mission. At the age of 30, he began preaching and baptizing in the Jordan River \u2014 including Jesus Christ. In his sermons, he also criticized King Herod Antipas for his illegitimate marriage. At the request of Salome, the daughter of Herod&#8217;s wife, John the Baptist was executed by beheading.   <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1500\" data-end=\"1704\">The church celebrates his birth on June 24, his death on August 29. According to legend, his head is kept in the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.
