The village of Tis\u00e1 is the gateway to the romantic region of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and the southwestern part of Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland. In the center of the village, visitors are greeted by the late Baroque Church of St. Anne, from which a direct path leads to the Tis\u00e1 Cliffs. It takes us to a fantastic rock city with many bizarre sandstone formations. Today, the entire area is a paradise for hikers and rock climbers, with 113 registered climbing routes. In addition to the Mal\u00e9 and Velk\u00e9 St\u011bny, there are less-visited rock formations north of Tis\u00e1\u2014the Ostrovsk\u00e9 and R\u00e1jeck\u00e9 Rocks. Tis\u00e1 is located in the Labsk\u00e9 P\u00edskovce Protected Landscape Area, 20 km from the regional capital of \u00dast\u00ed nad Labem. <\/p>\n
The Tis\u00e1 Walls are a natural monument\u2014a bizarre rock city on the southern edge of the Kru\u0161n\u00e9 Mountains fault in the Mesozoic sandstone plateau. On the western edge of the Labsk\u00e9 p\u00edskovce Protected Landscape Area, together with the R\u00e1jeck\u00e9 St\u011bny, Ostrovsk\u00e9 St\u011bny, and Vysok\u00fd Sn\u011b\u017en\u00edk, they form an attractive destination for hiking and rock climbing. The sandstone massif of the Tisk\u00e9 Walls, reaching an elevation of up to 613 meters, drops southward in an almost continuous vertical cliff face. On the northern side, erosive denudation processes have carved it into numerous pillars, towers, walls, ravines, gorges, overhangs, caves, plateaus, and rock mushrooms. The Tisk\u00e9 St\u011bny are among the oldest tourist areas in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. In earlier times, it was recommended to have a guide when visiting the rock city; along the way, the guide would point out rock formations that sparked visitors\u2019 imaginations. The tradition of naming the rocks continues, and the most famous names have been preserved to this day. The Tis\u00e1 Walls are divided into two large sections\u2014the GREAT WALLS and the SMALL WALLS\u2014through which sightseeing routes run. Both are connected by an educational trail marked with a white square featuring a diagonal green stripe, featuring 7 informational stops. A red-marked hiking trail also runs along the ridge of the Velk\u00e9 St\u011bny, serving as the shortest route between the entrance area and the eastern end of the rock city near the Tourist Lodge. <\/p>\n
St. Anne’s Church <\/strong> \u2013 built in 1789 in the simple, late Baroque style typical of churches from the Josephine era. Above the church lies the municipal cemetery, enclosed by a wall made of local sandstone. The church is open during services, which are held on the first Sunday of every month at 4:00 p.m. <\/p>\n D\u011b\u010d\u00ednsk\u00fd Sn\u011b\u017en\u00edk \u2013 this is our largest table mountain (588 m above sea level), with an observation tower (723 m above sea level) standing at its summit since 1864. Visitors can enjoy marked hiking and biking trails, and in winter, a network of maintained cross-country ski trails. A border hiking trail for pedestrians, cyclists, and wheelchair users leading to neighboring Saxony is open year-round. <\/p>\n \u2026it\u2019s a popular rock-climbing area? The entire Tisk\u00e9 Sk\u00e1ly region is a protected area where visitors must adhere to the rules applicable to such areas. Access to the rock formations between Doga and Zlomiskov\u00e1 Tower is restricted during the spring and summer months.
