It is known primarily for its glassmaking industry. The settlement of Bor was founded in 1692 through the subdivision of a derelict farmstead belonging to Raškovský, a farmer from Arnultovice. In 1710, the Kinsky family took over the estate. In 1757, at the request of Count Kinsky, Empress Maria Theresa granted town status to this settlement, which at the time consisted of 21 houses. The glassmaking industry began to concentrate in the town. The first glass merchants’ guild was established, which operated until 1835 and helped the town gain worldwide renown for its glassmaking. The town is also known for the Rumburk Uprising in May 1918, which ended in defeat just outside the town, followed by the execution of seven participants behind the fence of the Forest Cemetery. In the postwar period from 1945 to 1989, the city experienced a significant expulsion of the local German population and an influx of Czech settlers from the interior.

What you should see

Glass Museum – Located on Náměstí Míru, this Empire-style building dates from 1804. It stands at the intersection of Míru Square and Sloupská Street, where the parish office is located. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Construction of the church in the town originally named Haida began in 1786 under the supervision of the Děčín-based architect Kosch. The church was consecrated on August 15, 1792, and granted the status of a deanery. The parish thus became a deanery.

Forest Cemetery – Founded in 1909, it has been landscaped into a park-like setting with numerous rhododendrons along the road toward Radvanec.
