Krásná Lípa

The town is situated on the upper stream of the Křinice River. The first mention of Krásná Lípa comes from 1361; the village of Krásná Lípa obtained the status of a town in 1870. Linen manufacture started developing here in the 17th century, and during the 19th century Krásná Lípa became the centre of textile production and trade not only within the Empire of Austria-Hungary. There were over twenty larger and smaller factories. The first specialised factory of its kind in Austria-Hungary produced stockings and knit products. Krásná Lípa is also closely connected with the beginnings of tourism. The Mountaineering Association for Northernmost Bohemia was established here in 1885. The manufacture of the famous Böhmerland motorcycles was launched in Krásná Lípa in 1925. Famous painter A. Frind and composer A. Stradal lived and wrote their works in the town.
Krásná Lípa also includes the formerly autonomous villages of Dlouhý Důl, Hely, Kamenná Horka, Krásný Buk, Kyjov, Sněžná, Vlčí Hora and Zahrady. They are now mostly used for leisure purposes.
