The Lusatian Mountains Protected Landscape Area

The PLA was established in 1975 and covers and area of 267 km². The western part of the Lusatian Mountains is characterised by a high number of volcanic bodies (basalt and soundstone rocks) with large natural forests, mainly beech and talus forests. Located at the border between the Lusatian Mountains and the Elbe Sandstones, the Chřiby Basin is important in its number of protected areas as well as its valuable vernacular architecture. The PLA Lusatian Mountains Administration is based in Jablonné v Podještědí.
